February 26, 2002:
Hi, everybody, today’s my dad’s birthday. Guess what I got him? Five hours of work on his website for free (I usually make him pay in cash). Yea, well, that’s all for today. Just wanted to let you all know that.
February 15, 2002:
Happy Saint Valentine’s Day, one and all! I’m a day late, but it’s always better late than never, ne? So, I’ve been introduced to WeiB Kreuz recently and I wonder why I didn’t know about it before. It’s one of the freaking coolest Animé shows I’ve ever seen. Not to mention the title is in German, my very own second language, thank you very much. That in mind, “WeiB Kreuz” means “White Cross”; sweet, huh? And, of course, part of why I like it is that all the (very cute) guys who are main characters are gay. and they’re totally bishonen. For all of the rest of you non-Animé lovers, “bishonen” means “pretty boy” in Japanese. “Bishojo” means “pretty girl” (again, in Japanese), in case you were wondering. Aww, admit it, you know you were. And while I’m on the topic of basic translation “yaoi” is “male/male romantic relationships,” “yuri” is “female/female romantic relationships,” “shonen-ai” literally means “boy/boy love,” and “shojo-ai” literally means “girl/girl love.” As in GAY relationships? Oh, get over yourself. Don’t freak out and condemn me to hell now? And please check out my gay-friendly links on my {[LINKS]} page, will ya? Just a click away down below there. All right, enough with my homo-eroticism for today, ne? And again, have a happy (however late) Saint Valentine’s Day! If you wanna know where Saint Valentine’s Day actually came from, check out my February 2, 2002 Random*Thoughts. It’ll let you know all about the original holiday. Have fun!
February 2, 2002: the Imbolgc Edition
Hiee, one and all! I bet only a fraction of you even know what Imbolgc is. Well, that’s quite all righty, cause good ole Viannah here is gonna learn ya. So here you go… On Imbolgc, also known as Candlemas and Saint Bridget’s Day, the Maiden is honored as the Bride. Straw Brideo’gas (“corn dollies”) are created from oat or wheat straw and placed in baskets with white flower bedding. Young girls then carry the Brideo’gas door to door, and gifts are bestowed upon the image from each household. Afterwards at the traditional feast, the older women make special acorn wands for the dollies to hold, and in the morning the ashes in the hearth are examined to see if the magic wands left marks as a good omen. Brighid’s Crosses are fashioned from wheat stalks and exchanged as symbols of protection and prosperity in the coming year. Pronounced “breed”… Brighid is the Goddess of Poetry, Fire, Smith-crafts, and Healing. She is the Celtic Triple Goddess who has appeared as Brigantia in England, Bride in Scotland, and Brigandu in France. Alternate spellings are Bridgid, Brigit, and Bridgit. She was also known as the Three Mothers or the Three Blessed Ladies. Home hearth fires are put out and re-lit, and a besom (an old fashioned word for “broom”) is place by the front door to symbolize sweeping out the old and welcoming the new. Candles are lit and placed in each room of the house to honor the re-birth of the Sun. As the festival of the Maiden (the Young Goddess) it is her season to prepare for growth and renewal. February 2nd marks the center point of the dark half of the year. Imbolgc is the basis of both Groundhog’s Day and Saint Valentine’s Day. How cool is that? And, it’s one of the Greater Sabbats, which just means that it’s NOT a solstice or an equinox. So, there’s my little lesson for today. By the way, I’m Wiccan, so this information isn’t new to me, and feel free to email me with more questions if you don’t understand what I’ve written here or want to learn more. With that said, I don’t have the ultimate answers and I definitely DO NOT know everything there is to know about the Goddess and God… and it is impossible that I ever could. Also, one last note: please don’t go yelling at me about how I’m going to hell if you’re not inclined to my beliefs, okay? I really do get enough of that from my friends, I don’t need anymore of it from people I don’t even know. Plus, there is more than one way to the Divine, and there’s more than one face of God, anyway. I’m a firm believer in that, at least. Don’t diss me and my Goddess and God, I won’t diss you and your Deity, whomever He or She may be, deal?
