To everyone I said I would hang out with today:

I’m really sorry. I haven’t been feeling well since I got my wisdom teeth out and I’ve kind of been going in and out of consciousness since Saturday morning. I’m disappointed I didn’t get to see you all today, but I wouldn’t have been any fun to be around anyway; I’m grouchy, moody, a bit nauseous, and at times in pain. Please forgive me, and I hope I’ll see you some time tomorrow or when I get back from Texas the Saturday after next Saturday.

Wisdom teeth out at age 20.

I got my wisdom teeth out Saturday morning and now I feel quite naseous. I wasn’t worried about actually getting the teeth out, nor about the needle they suck in my arm to put me to sleep. But I WAS seriously not cool with being put to sleep in the first place. That really freaked me out. Seriously; I started to cry and everything. It was NOT fun. Not to mention I sat in the operating chair for like half an hour before they even put the needle in my arm so I had time to worry and brood and worry some more. I was okay when I got home, but I was furious at not being able to feel my tongue or the roof of my mouth, and I was so angry I started crying again. Didn’t eat anything substantial until today (Sunday) for lunch when the family went to Souplantation. I didn’t get much and ate really slowly, so it was mostly okay until I accidently swallowed one of the sutures. Since then I’ve been feeling quite nauseous, but I don’t think it’s because of actually swallowing one, just the IDEA of swallowing one. Hopefully I’ll feel better tomorrow.

Stuff straight from the White House

Fact Sheet: Giving Law Enforcement the Tools They Need to Safeguard Our Homeland. I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry. And here’s a link to the text of the Patriot Act. It’s long, but worth the read if you care about privacy and personal freedom.

President’s radio address concerning Judge Roberts. Let me just say this: It’s not about “rising above partisanship”. THIS is what it’s about:

Judge John Roberts’ record, both as Deputy Solicitor General and on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, raises serious concerns about whether he should be elevated to the Supreme Court.

Reproductive and Privacy Rights

  1. Roberts is on record as saying he opposes Roe v. Wade and thinks the decision should be repealed. This is troubling for our community because the legal underpinnings of Roe have direct implications for other court cases also of importance to GLBT people like Lawrence v. Texas, which basically said that GLBT people are entitled to equality under the law. If Roe is repealed, then so could be Lawrence, and our progress toward equal rights could be set back decades.
  2. Roberts co-authored a brief for the government in Rust v. Sullivan (1991) which stated that “Roe was wrongly decided and should be overruled,” even though the case did not directly involve the validity of Roe.
  3. He co-authored an amicus curiae brief in Bray v. Alexandria Women’s Health Clinic (1993), in support of the radical anti-choice group Operation Rescue, which had obstructed access to reproductive health care clinics.

Separation Between Church and State

  1. As deputy solicitor general, Roberts co-authored an amicus brief urging the Court to rule that it was constitutional for a public school to sponsor prayer at graduation ceremonies. The Court rejected this view in a 5-4 decision. See Lee v. Weisman.

Power of the Government to Enact Protections

  1. A fair-minded justice understands the authority of Congress to enact legislation that protects Americans. As a DC Circuit judge, Roberts dissented from the denial of en banc review of a case in which the court upheld the Endangered Species Act. In other words, he would have held that Congress did not have the power to enact this important statute.

Right wing groups have come out in strong support of Judge Roberts. The conservative organization Progress for America called Judge Roberts a “terrific nominee,” and Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, said, “The president is a man of his word. He promised to nominate someone along the lines of a Scalia or a Thomas, and that is exactly what he has done.”

Conservative groups claim to have the nominee they were hoping for, but Americans deserve a Supreme Court justice who will be fair, independent and committed to protecting the rights, freedoms and legal safeguards that apply to every one of us – not just some of us. It’s our job to ensure Judge Roberts’ record receives a thorough review by Senators.

And this is certainly something to be wary about. It’s not like they’re looking into private life. Just his political life, which is called for ’cause he’s been nominated for the HIGHEST COURT IN THE NATION.

The latest ‘issues’ from the White House. And, of course, our rights are going down the drain. As for the speech from Fort Bragg? It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

Sometimes I really wish the President would get really sick and have to resign or something. I mean, I don’t want him to get killed or anything, but GOD stop being such an idiot, will you? You’re not making anyone in America look good.

You have GOT to be kidding me.

Just when you think the world is changing for the better. At least some of the protesters were arrested.

Damn it! I JUST upgraded to XP Professional.

Oh my lord, this is so something. I’m not even sure how to describe it. The idea is to not let the little guy get your mouse pointer. And man, it’s harder than it seems.

Also, I have no idea who this is, but she’s an awesome photographer. Positive: she likes Johnny Depp and Anne Rice. Negative: she likes Foamy the Squirrel.

20 Years Ago: I had just been born.

10 Years Ago: I was crying over not being able to write my first real paper perfectly the first time.

5 Years Ago: I had my driving permit and was learning stick shift.

1 Year Ago: I was in the hospital for being a “danger to myself and others”.

1 Month Ago: I was late to class… again.

1 Week Ago: I got a window AC for my room. It’s absolutely heavenly.

Yesterday: I didn’t sleep enough.

Today: My ten-minute play is being performed at Pasadena City College!

Tomorrow: I’ll call all the companies to whom I am still in debt and work something out.
