Thoughts on alcohol

No matter what anyone ever says, I will always hate alcohol.
It tastes terrible (or is tasteless, which isn’t good either), smells bad, causes humiliating behavior in otherwise upstanding people, accounts for random mood changes, impulsive (often destructive) actions, loss of coordination, and loss of judgment, and can cause serious health problems. Not to mention that when one is drunk, they’re more likely to take OTHER unhealthy drugs.
I hate alcohol because of what it does to people when they drink it, what they turn into. I refuse to talk to someone in person, on the phone, or online when they are drunk. Some people say that drinking makes it easier for them to say their feelings. Well, I say to them: if you can’t tell me while you’re sober, I don’t want to hear it anyway. A friend of mine told me that it helps him feel something other than loneliness. To him, I say: that’s pathetic; you’re not fixing your situation by drinking. People tell me that they drink to take the edge off, to relax, to relieve stress. To them, I say: that’s alcoholic behavior; get help.
That said, I will not stop you from drinking, even if you’re underage. And I’m not going to tell the authorities unless you’re being disruptive or need medical intervention. It’s your life and your decision. But don’t expect me to come out with you when you go to bars, or to just sit and smile when you order a drink, or to condone (or tolerate) your drunken behavior.
I do not drink, and I never will. No one is ever going to be able to change my mind in this respect. I try my best to respect your decisions; please try to respect mine.
