Back pain

Posted in health, ladyamedeus, personal on October 30th, 2005 by V.E.

Okay, people. If you know me, you probably know that I have back problems. My back is knotted, twisted, and in general really bad shape most of the time. I recently bought a book called “The Back Pain Book” (revised 2nd edition) and am working with what I’ve been learning to cut down on having to spend hours and hours lying on my back on the floor because any other position is too painful.

That said, I would like to plead as sincerely as possible for something I came across a while back (hah, no pun intended) but have not been able to afford.

From the label: “Spine-Worx gently guides misaligned vertebrae into their correct positions and holds them there, while tense muscles relax and stretch. Spine-Worx uses only your own body weight to control applied pressure. Spend just fifteen minutes on your back to relieve back pain and related symptoms. You can’t overuse or over adjust since the back conforms to its normal and natural shape. Designed for people from 5′ to 6′4″. 24″ [in length]. Weighs just two pounds…easy to use anywhere.”

It can be found on Amazon.com, SkyMall.com, eBay.com, and various other online stores. The average price is around $30-35.

Anyway, just thought I’d throw that out there because the holiday season is coming up. *GINORMUS hint*

Tentative, next semester

Posted in ladyamedeus, school on October 29th, 2005 by V.E.

Here’re the classes I WANT for next semester. Whether I actually GET them or not is up to the Registrar’s Office. Here’s to hoping.

His360: History Workshop
His420: Progressive Era Debates, 1880-1920
Eng167: Courtship to Hook Up
Eng480: Advanced Writing Workshop

Both 400 level classes are permission only, so if I get permission from the professors who teach them, I’m in. The other two are up for grabs. I do have seniority over the freshmen and sophmores, though… Or maybe that’s “juniority”. AND, since I’m an English: Creative Writing major, I get first dibs on English courses. Same for History classes, since I’m also a History major.

Other possiblities, if I don’t get what I want… I need to take some of them eventually anyway, so if I don’t get what I want, it’s not a huge loss.

His237: United States History I
His238: United States History II
His316: Tudor, Stuart England
His374: History of Medicine and Public Health

Eng201: Medival Literature
Eng202: Rennaisance Literature
Eng206: American Literature I
Eng207: American Literature II
Eng208: American Literature III
Eng210: 20th Century Literature

Photos of Harper’s Ferry and Antietam

Posted in favorite, ladyamedeus, personal, school on October 28th, 2005 by V.E.

Okay, so I said I would try to get some pictures of Antietam for Bobby… and I did! Some background: I’m taking a class called “The Civil War and Reconstruction” and went to Harper’s Ferry and Antietam National Parks on October 27. So, without further ado:

^^^ This is a street in Harper’s Ferry. The class went there to learn about John Brown and his failed insurrection.

^^^ This is a (different) street, also in Harper’s Ferry.

^^^ This is a rockin’ picture of an empty lot. That is, a house USED to be here, but obviously not in a long time. I really like the way the rocks have been cut out to make room for the (former) house.

^^^ This is part of Antietam battlefield. Up on the hill there is the visitor’s center. I’m pleased to say that there are WAY fewer monuments and etc. at Antietam as compared to Gettysburg. The Park Service is actually trying to prohibit (or at least hinder as much as they can) the additions of more monuments, since they want to keep the battlefield as much the way it was back then as they can.

^^^ This is a real, working, usable cannon in Antietam.

^^^ This is me getting ready to fire a cannon at Antietam as part of a learning excercise. I’m holding the lanyard and primel in my hands.

^^^ Now I’m putting the primel in the hole in the back of the cannon so that it will fire.

^^^ I’m about to pull the lanyard and fire! BOOM!

Okay, so that’s it for now. I wanted to get the photos up before I forgot and then it’s like a month later or something. Now off to dinner for me!

Things happen

Posted in fyi, ladyamedeus, school on October 27th, 2005 by V.E.

Okay, so a few new things have happened recently. In no particular order:

I had a really productive talk with Dave.
–I must remember to email him my “Dave essay”.
I had a very good Fall Break. Bennett came down and it was good.
I’m going to Bennett’s house for Thanksgiving.
I’m really starting to like one of the Epsilons, Jenna. She’s pretty cool.

I went to Gettysburg National Park and Cemetery on Sunday. It was indeed informative. Too many statues, plaques, and memorials, though… Not that remembering the dead is a bad thing, but if you ever been to Gettysburg, you know what I mean.

I am going to Antietam tomorrow and thus missing class and work. I only have one class tomorrow, and it is the class for which I’m going to Antietam (His339: Civil War and Reconstruction), so I’ll really only be missing work. I hope there are less statues there than in Gettysburg.

There is now shuttle service (for some cold hard cash, of course) to and from the airport in Philly and the train station in Lancaster from F&M.

I somehow got dubbed House Captain. That is, I’m in charge of getting everyone in NorthBen, where I live, to vote in the elections on November 8. It’s an honour, but I honestly don’t know how to promote to the whole House except by going door-to-door… which I LOATHE to do.

I’m very tired.
I need a shower, but not because I’m dirty… because I’m tired.

I miss my brother and sister and my pets. And my parents.
I have only missed four classes TOTAL all semester.
–Trust me, that is an amazing record on my part.

I have too much homework….
… and too much other stuff to do…
… and not enough money, as usual.

I have a new phone, but the number is the same as before. Maybe I said that already, but I don’t remember. So, if I didn’t before, I’m telling you all now.
