Update on the… situation.

Okay, so I went to the doctor yesterday to have this lump in my breast checked out. Bennett drove me to the Lancaster General Women and Babies Hospital–which is seriously the nicest hospital I’ve ever been inside of–and of course I was anxious about it. He didn’t literally hold my hand, but he did mentally since I was unsure if he was going to come inside with me, and he did. Hearts to Ben. ANYway, so I was freaking out and this nice nurse lady is like, “Hey, don’t worry about it. It’s probably nothing.” and since she’s a nurse, I felt better.

So I went up to the radiologist and got an ultrasound (the radiologist said that mammograms are usually pretty useless in people under 30) and the nurse was like, “Weeeell, it’s not a cyst,”–which is what I was hoping for–”but it’s probably just a benign tumor… And it’s small (only 2 cm), so that’s good” and I was like, “TUMOR???” But before I could ask any real questions, she left and returned with the radiologist herself.

So the radiologist looked and was like, “Hmmm… well, I would like to get a second opinion from the surgeon since this is a pretty big tumor (relative to your age) and I’m not sure if they want me to do a biopsy or what.” And I was sitting there thinking, “Oh. My. God. I have a tumor.” Then she continued with, “I seriously doubt it’s breast cancer since people your age don’t get breast cancer. The earliest known onset of breast cancer ever was in a woman who was 26 or 28… you’re only 20–and that type of cancer just doesn’t happen in people your age.”

And I was like… “GAH. I have a… tumor. In my breast. A TUMOR?? I’m freaking 20! Tumors aren’t supposed to happen when you’re 20!” And the doctor was like, “Yeah, I know. It’s pretty rare for someone so young to have a tumor, but since you caught it so quickly, it won’t be a problem–even if it IS malignant. The surgeon will just take it out before it gets out of hand.”

SOO, looks like it’s a tumor. I have an appointment with the surgeon on Monday, but I need to reschedule since it’s during a class I’ve already missed four times this semester. Hopefully I can get another appointment later next week, since I don’t want to go to spring break with this thing hanging over my head. Knowing sooner is better than later.
