I figure it’s about time I write up my thoughts on Diplocon since I’ve had a week to think about it and mull it over. First off–THANK YOU to the people who made it possible, listed below… and I apologize dearly if I forget someone.

Kim, for lending me X and for coming to all the meetings to support us
Bennett, for supporting me personally and for GMing
Jess, for being Artist-in-Residence, setting up the Artists’ Alley, and for the AWESOME mascots
Pedro, the DDR master and for keeping us on track
Marshall, for running one of the anime rooms and staying up the night with me playing Fluxx
Geoff, for basically single-handedly running the board game room
Ben, for making riske’ comments about my lesbian tendencies and for being the resident RPG go-to guy
Liz, for taking up the duties of note-taking and schedule-creating, esp. when I slacked off in that dept.
Shig & Craig, for being voices of reason in the midst of chaos and for GMing
Louis, for running the console gaming and for lending me The Gamers
Jeff, for being a general supporter of the cause and killjoy at the same time
Yager & Sketchy Steve, for lending me virtually half of what was shown in the anime rooms

…and of course, most importantly: Colin, for the idea, for “hooking us up” more than once [that is, getting us sponsorship and t-shirts, etc], and for generally holding everything together

Okay, secondly, notes about what to make better next year.

  1. big tournaments on Saturday
  2. registration desk goes BEHIND the second set of doors so we don’t freeze our asses off
  3. actually have opening and closing ceremonies
  4. figure out what to do with minors attending the con
  5. better advertising beginning MUCH more in advance

So that’s all I can think of for now. It was AWESOME. It made me feel really good to be a part of something that succeeded, despite some people’s repeated misgivings [ahem, Yager]. A great time was had by all, and we even made a half-page photo spread in The College Reporter. W00t!

We’re planning the next Diplocon for either next October or next February. Keep a lookout for details!
