Apparently, my appointment has been moved up to 7:30-10:30 AM tomorrow, which means I’ll have more recovery time between 10:30 and class time. Nice of them to let me know. Now I just need to drag Bennett out of bed by 7:00 and be at the hospital by 8:00.
Please think good thoughts for me. I’m really anxious about this.
Preliminary Autumn 2006 class schedule
by V.E. on April 10th, 2006
filed under ladyamedeus, school
As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m (planning on) taking two summer courses, one of which would render my taking Ren. Lit. useless. Therefore, once I get permission to take that non-F&M class, I’ll be switching this schedule around to better reflect what I want to take rather than what I need to take. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a class that meets on Tues/Thurs so I don’t have three classes every Mon/Wed. The following is as it stands now. Interestingly, I got all my first choices. There’s a first time for everything, I suppose!
Mondays
11:00-12:20 Eng207, Studies in American Lit. 2
12:30-13:20 Eng202, Studies in Renaissance Lit.
15:00-16:20 His360, History Workshop (methodology)
Tuesdays
13:30-14:50 His349, Modern South Africa
Wednesdays
same as Mondays
Thursdays
same as Tuesdays
Fridays
12:30-13:20 Eng202, Studies in Renaissance Lit.
Chimera update + request

I went to TOCC tonight! YAY! *dances* It was sooo much fun, as nerdy as this campaign is, it has PIRATES! How cool is that?
Gwendolyn (my character) is now a level 6 Channeler! Does anyone feel like drawing a sketch/picture/whatever of Gwen? I’d be forever grateful!
Name: Gwendolyn, aka Gwen
Level: Channeler 6
Race: human; Gender: female
Age: 18 (I swear I actually did role that!)
Height: 5’10″; Weight: 144 lbs.
Eyes: blue; Skin: dark; Hair: black
She has an Ice Summon (a construct) which is … more intelligent than the entire party and which is human-size. Gwen wears studded leather and has a cutlass, a short bow, and a light wooden shield, but she primarily uses powers in her defense and attacks, especially those that are ice/cold-based. She isn’t very strong physically and is easily taken down if the only factor is brute strength, but from a distance she’s a killer. Gwen’s a proficient sailor, knows basic demonology and can speak and decipher two languages. She has high skill points in “intimidate”, “bluff”, and “disguise”. Basically, she’s one slick chick.
Gwendolyn acts as the womanizing first mate (and very well, if I do say so myself). She has been known to sleep with women who are not of her race (ie: goblins) and women who have already been killed, as well as the occasional [human] wench or barmaid just to keep things interesting. She has an … interesting semi-pseudosexual relationship with the other three members of her party, all male, and her moral ambiguity keeps them on their toes, especially the captain who must at times reign her in. Also, even though she has the most Ki (more or less a D&D mana/magic equivalent) of the group, she tends to let hurt crew members heal themselves or each other without her help.
The other members of the crew/campaign are:
Flik, captain (a Ki warrior, a cross between a channeler and a fighter)
Torgemus, aka Torg (a fighter) AND
Jim, [former] cabin boy (a fighter)

An Interview with the President of F&M’s Students for Marriage Equality
–interviewer A. Yager
–interviewee
1: What is SME? (mission statement, goals, etc.)
Students for Marriage Equality (SME) was created to provide Franklin & Marshall community members with a safe place to discuss and actively promote the effort for gaining marriage equality on campus and in Pennsylvania, the United States, and each member’s place of origin. SME works with other groups, both on and off campus, to aid in the fight for legal recognition of same-sex marriage, especially in Pennsylvania and the United States, through education and outreach. SME also advocates for equality between romantic partners, educates about diverse marriage ceremonies, campaigns for students and others to learn about the laws under which they are governed, and supports alternatives to traditional marriage.
2: What gave you the idea to start SME?
Weeeeeell, when I was in high school, I didn’t CREATE the school’s Gay-Straight Alliance, but I did lead it for two years and helped to give it more strength and impact on the campus. When I came to F&M, I discovered that the LGBTA (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgendered and their Allies) was alive and well–and is still thriving–and I didn’t feel that I could do much to help the cause as I had in high school. After my freshman year, though, I wanted to do more with marriage rights and I didn’t see enough support coming from LGBTA, so I created SME. Originally, it was meant to work only towards the extension of marriage rights to gay and lesbian couples nationwide, but it has expanded to cover cultural wedding and marriage customs, safe sex before and after marriage, getting along with one’s partner, and the legal aspects and “how to” of marriage in the United States.
3: When did you start SME?
SME began in mid-January 2005 and was officially recognized by the College in September 2005.
4: Who else was involved in the creation of SME?
Josh Goldberg ’07 is my right hand man. I have the idea and the drive to begin; he has the motivation and the drive to keep it active. SME certainly wouldn’t have gotten this far without him.
5: What sort of events is SME involved in on campus?
This year we were involved in two main events: Benjamin Franklin’s 300th birthday in mid-January and the first annual Marriage Equality Week in early February. We participated in the school-wide celebration of Benjamin Franklin’s 300th birthday by performing an authentic eighteenth-century marriage ceremony complete with period dress and speech. Shortly afterward, we had our first annual Marriage Equality Week, which consisted of many events including two speakers, a week long letter-writing campaign, two screenings of a documentary by Layne Amerikaner ’07 called “Stonewall City”, a Women’s Center discussion, and a poetry and literature reading at the Philadelphia Alumni Writers House.
6: Are these connected to any sort of broader events?
Definitely. The letter campaign, for example, urged officials and representatives of Lancaster County to fight against Pennsylvania’s “marriage protection amendment” and to recognize same-sex marriage within the county as a way of showing support to our lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) citizens.
7: How many people are involved with SME at F&M?
SME’s member list is almost forty students and College staff. We have around fifteen active members.
8: What sort of events does SME have planned for next year?
Weddings Around the World, a series which showcases cultural weddings from parts of the world not the United States, a trip to Philadelphia’s Constitution Center, and the second annual Marriage Equality Week, among other smaller events.
9: What is your role in SME?
I am the founder and current President.
10: Does SME relate to the classes you’ve taken here? Have they helped you in your SME work?
My classes tend not to relate to SME, but I can certainly relate SME to my classes. Being in a leadership position of an organization that is particularly focused on a controversial topic helps me take criticism well and forces me to stand up for what I believe in; I HAVE to stand up for my beliefs if I want to get anything done!
11: Do you plan to continue with your SME work after graduation?
Yes and no. I don’t think I’ll continue work specifically with SME, but I would like to go into non-profit work helping people be treated fairly by our government.
12: Do you think SME will continue at F&M after you leave?
Unless acceptance of others in the United States drastically improves between now and my graduation day, SME’s going to be around for a while. The ultimate goal is to not have a NEED for SME because Pennsylvania and the USA will extend marriage rights to all couples regardless of their respective genders. It would be nice if that happened and SME could change its focus, but we have a lot of work to do until that day comes.
