Pay-per-Post: Paying per Click

SEEMS like a good idea, doesn’t it? I mean, you’re paying someone to advertise for you, but you don’t have to actually PAY them anything unless you actually get traffic to your site (that is, unless someone clicks on the link and is directed to your webspace). If you think that paid searching is for you, check out this white paper by Apogee Search, based in Austin, Texas.

  1. Senior photo (for yearbook, etc) done and done.
  2. Did my LAUNDRY at Yager’s place… the dryer works now!
  3. Finished The Turner Diaries, which I do NOT recommend, especially if you’re easily offended.
  4. Eta’s official bid night and party.
  5. Dave singing at the Pops Concert my senior year in high school. I cried.

Pay-per-Post: Exotic Travel

You all know that I enjoy traveling on occasion and would like to take the time now to mention a GREAT site for travelers (or those who WANT to be travelers)! Tropical Vacations are WarmIslands.com’s specialty. They’ve got articles about cruises, all the big cruise lines (including Disney!) and stuff about trips to Hawaii, the South Pacific, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and more! There’s a member forum for discussing cruise and vacation adventures; you all should join so you can rant and rave about the goodness of those Mexican beaches (or where ever you went or want to go!). There’s even a recipe page for tropical food and drinks!

I HIGHLY recommend this site for those of you who are new to traveling and/or taking cruises abroad, since WarmIslands.com has articles galore about everything you could possibly have a question about… and if you can’t find it, there’s probably something in one of the forums! The website is also great for those of you who’ve been traveling and would like to know more about cheap(er) deals (like the benefits of a repositioning cruise, for example). They don’t actually SELL trips or cruise packages (at least not that I could find, although there IS advertising for websites that DO offer such deals), so their reviews and information are less biased towards one island or cruise line over another.

I was last in Mexico a looooooong time ago, but I can tell that this site–had I known about it–would’ve been a HUGE help when deciding where to actually go in Mexico and what to do (and eat!) there to get the “true Spanish/Mexican experience” (or not, if I had not wanted any authenticity). I know that I’ll be using WarmIslands.com to learn more about possible ideas, destinations, and cruises for all my future (tropical) travel… and you all should too.

  1. The Student Senate, who gave me a ticket to the senior dinner for free after I told them I wouldn’t be able to pay the cost.
  2. Dinner with Mark Healy at the Writers House. Free food!…
  3. … and, well, Mark Healy… who is British (hot!) and a playright (connections!).
  4. Greek Council is canceled tonight! YAYZORS.
  5. NO Kappa mixer tonight (which means I’m not required to go and feel awkward for not drinking).

Commercials for liquor/beer/wine

Something that REALLY annoys me is that alcohol companies create commercials that make drinking look really COOL. Think about who’s saying this… It’s ME saying it… and I’ve never had a drop in my life and I never expect to and I abhor alcohol in general. What is this world coming to if even I think that beer/liquor/wine commercials are cool. AND, they’re effective, too (duh).

Examples off the top of my head
Budweiser “King of Beers” with this mp3
Bacardi’s Barcadi & Cola guys
Captain Morgan’s “She’s [or He's] got a little Captain in her [him]”
Smirnoff’s “Antarctica: the biggest party island of them all”
Bombay Sapphire’s modern samurai-type carving ice into the shape of a glass with a katana

I wish that people cared about OTHER PEOPLE as much as they do about making friggin’ alcohol commercials look cool.

So this guy, George M. Davison, is the creator InventionLand, a place where people with great ideas–inventors–can work to make their ideas reality without interference and discouragement and on their own terms. There’s even an InventionLand Video you can check out.

Facebook spinoff(s)

Okay, so apparently someone with enough know-how got enough fed-up with Facebook and has decided to create his own version, PhatCouch, which looks… almost exactly the same as Facebook and does… primarily the same thing(s) as Facebook except it has (as of this writing) less than 100 members TOTAL in the whole network.

Honestly, I’m at a loss as to whether this “new Facebook” is [1] actually worth it, [2] really THAT much different than any OTHER Facebook-esque site (ie: MySpace or Xanga), and [3] really necessary just because Facebook has “sold out” and let non-college students into its ranks, especially when it does the same thing (only from the start).

Check it out if you like and let me know what you think. http://www.phatcouch.com
