Pay-per-Post: Ethical Banking?
by V.E. on October 4th, 2006
Ethical Banking??? Sounds like an oxymoron, doesn’t it? I suppose ethical insurance sounds a LITTLE more appealing, since it IS supposed to be reparations for something lost in tragedy, right? Like Smile Bank (which I mention in a previous post), Co-operative Ethics is a bank based in the UK (what’s WITH the Brits, anyway?) that prides itself on turning “away some £ 10 million of business that conflicted with [their] Ethical Policy.” I feel a bit like these people are tooting their own horn, and it’s really a turn off for me. I understand wanting to be proud of doing the right thing (which, admittedly, Co-operative Ethics tries to do… or at least, they purport to try to do), but shouldn’t one’s actions speak for themselves? Bleh. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just feeling cynical today.
