23 January 2007

  1. A much better day than yesterday. Whew!
  2. Getting a refund check (!?!) in my campus mail from F&M…
  3. …which means I have money to pay the bills, which is HUGE a relief.
  4. Marcy, who drove me to the BofA teller so I could deposit the refund after work.
  5. State of the Union… I guess it was a good thing.

24 January 2007

  1. Talked to my professor about missing class on Monday.
  2. The Daily Show‘s coverage of the State of the Union.
  3. Worked out some of the clothing orders from (and returns to) MetroStyle.
  4. “Ctrl+V” which is computer-speak for “paste.” Sooo much better than right-clicking all the time.
  5. Milk! OMG I love milk.

Hokay… so I was tagged by [info]last_highlander. Lucky me.

Rules: Write down ten things about yourself that’s a habit, weird or unknown to your friends, and tag other people so that they can do the same. You’re not allowed to tag the person who tagged you and you must state the rules on your entry so that tagged people know how to play.

I. I like cold water. I’ll repeatedly ask whomever I’m with if there is cold [drinkable] water where we’re going, even though I know it annoys them after about the tenth time they’ve said “yes.”

II. If something is mine or in “my part of the house,” it needs to be just so. I get disturbed when someone reads a book or magazine of mine and doesn’t put it back exactly where it was on the shelf or table.

III. Loose human hair freaks me out. It’s okay as long as it’s attached to someone, but if it’s just lying on the bed or floor, I can’t stand it. Interestingly, my freak-out-ness doesn’t apply to animal hair, although if it looks too much like human hair, it could.

IV. I have chronic, crippling back pain that sometimes forces me to sleep on the floor so that I can get to sleep at all. I saw a chiropractor for it for a while last year, who shook his head and “tsk tsk”ed every time I went to see him, but then the money ran out for non-emergency health problems, so I stopped going. In any case, if you find me sleeping on the floor, don’t be offended–it’s not you, it really is me.

V. I avoid picking up and/or speaking with someone on the phone as much as possible. I’d much rather speak in person or online, not this weird intermediary that I have to pay full attention to but am still in my own house for.

VI. Yes, I actually do have a living will. I know that sounds odd and possibly morbid, since I’m only 22, but I want to make sure I don’t end up like Terri Schiavo. If you want a copy, or want help creating your own, let me know; I’m on a mission to make sure that personal wishes are adhered to in time(s) of crisis.

VII. I really really REALLY like pretty stamps. Not the collectors’ kind, but stamps that I can use to send mail and brighten someone else’s day, too!

VIII. I’m afraid of children. I don’t know how else to put this, but I struggle with my adoration of them (especially the cute ones!) and my utter fear of harming them. It’s really bad… even forced me to decide against having children of my own, even though no one believes me when I say that.

IX. I was the chair of a statewide grassroots advocacy organization before I turned 18. And it wasn’t just any state… California State, thankyewverymuch.

X. More than 75% of the people I’ve slept with have been men, but generally the women have been more memorable.

I tag: [info]kimmira and [info]mib24601… should they feel so inclined.

Not all THAT accurate, but easy to complete, so eh

  5. Hot chocolate.

Pay-per-Post: UK loans

[If you hadn't guessed from the first part of the title, this is a paid post.]

I’ve never been to the UK. In fact, the last time I was out of the country was when I was five and my parents took my family to Tiajuana (right across the border from San Diego in Mexico, in case you’ve never heard of it) for a day for “authentic” Mexican food. BUT, I do have plenty of [school] loans, so I feel like I’m at least somewhat qualified to speak on the subject. Plus, how different can UK loans be from US loans?

Apparently, no one (except, perhaps, the extremely rich who “winter” in one place and “summer” in another) can get by in life without having some kind of personal or secured loan. School loans, buying a car or house, credit card debt–all forms of loans. In fact, if someone walked into a car dealer and plunked down $30,000 in cash (or even “secured” in check form), the dealership would be pretty antsy about dealing with the customer (no pun intended). I mean, who really has $30,000 to just blow on a new car? Aside from Paris Hilton, of course; but we’re talking about real, normal people here–not freaks of finance.

In any case, loans seem to be around for the long haul–and if you can get by without one, more power to you. For the rest of us, at least those of us living in the UK, there’s SelectLoans.co.uk, where you can compare personal loans before you sign your name (and first-born child) to one of them.
