Day Two hundred sixty-eight

A bit preemptive, one might say, but I’d rather go to sleep happy(ier) than not… ‘specially after the shitty weekend I’m still trying to work out in my head.

  1. Anime Club tonight.
  2. Possible trip to DogStar Books this afternoon.
  3. Maybe dinner at the dining hall; that’d be nice.
  4. Working on my F&M scarf… even though today’s forecast is around 80°F.
  5. Pursuit of Happyness this weekend for a dollar (w/ my college ID).

RackNine Cuts I.T. Overhead for Customers
New Offering from RackNine Equals Expert Support & Great Value

Edmonton, Alberta (March 27. 2007) – RackNine, a leading provider of shared and dedicated web hosting services, is expanding options for its dedicated server customers by adding an Assisted Service Plan–a professional solution without the traditional costs. RackNine’s technical support will address needed patches, backups, monitoring and vulnerability assessments. Customers can get the power of a dedicated server without having to perform all of the administrative tasks associated with an unmanaged account such as server startup, patching and anti-virus protection. Add-on services, with the purchase of a service contract, include security scans, backup and recovery, monitoring and escalation management, at no additional fee. Custom engineering options are also available, billed at a flat hourly rate. The plan can be added to qualified dedicated hosting accounts during the purchase process. While users are provided with a basic startup environment, RackNine can also assist customers who have special needs. As with all dedicated servers accounts, customers can choose from a wide range of options including operating systems, RAM, hard drives, processors and firewalls. In addition, as with all RackNine services, the plan is backed by RackNine’s round the clock customer support. For more information on RackNine dedicated server plans, visit http://dedicated.rk9.net.

About RackNine
RackNine Inc. is the evolution of its former company, Couple Guys Consulting. Originally founded in February of 1997, Couple Guys Consulting grew as a leader in automated website management, developing the popular and widely-used SiteTools content-creation system. Couple Guys Consulting entered the web hosting arena in 1999 after being unable to find a reliable method to outsource its hosting arrangements. A subsidiary (CGC Network) was formed to handle hosting needs of both Couple Guys Consulting’s web presence as well as needs of a quickly growing userbase who were also unhappy with their current hosts. Hardware solutions were heavily researched, technical staff was hired and trained, and CGCNetwork’s experience in high quality dedicated – and shared – hosting began. CGC Network has since evolved to provide inexpensive and incredibly reliable consumer hosting services. New servers and infrastructure have been laid, our aggressive package pricing is implemented, the newest and most advanced user management system ever created has been installed, and our always-present commitment to providing high quality service has turned CGC Network into one of the fastest and most user-friendly systems available. – RackNine -

Vacation in Mexico!

by V.E. on March 28th, 2007

Seems like all we hear about these days is Hispanics/Latinos/Mexicans/whatever-you-call-them* trying to cross the border from Mexico into the United States… and the USA not liking that and setting up a huge fence and sending out “Minutemen” to guard said fence, etc. etc. etc. In the meantime, many Americans are enjoying the benefits of an all inclusive Mexico vacation from Vacations.net, a site that “raises the bar and sets a new standard for hospitality websites catering to the high-end while offering great rates, tremendous savings up to 50% off regular rates, and more!” Indeed, “savvy travelers seeking to discover a new all-inclusive resort or to find a great rate on a long-time favorite vacation destination do not need to look any further than Vacations.net, where paradise is just a click away.”

Check out Vacations.net or call 1-888-205-3315 for information and reservations about trips to Mexico and many other vacation destinations.

*Note: I don’t mean to be flippant here, it’s just that even they argue over what to call themselves–and even if they want to be classified in the same group as one another at all.

267 #2: My F&M class ring arrived in the mail today.

It looks like this:

Click on the picture for a better view. Mine is white gold (shown here) and says “BA” on one side and “2007″ on the other, so the pressure’s on for me to actually graduate! Under “BA” (which is “BBA” in the picture) is an outline of the top center of Old Main, which is the center building in this 1850s era photo. On the other side, underneath “2007″ (which reads “2015″ in the picture here), is the iconic steeple on top of Hensel Hall (which has been subsumed by the Barshinger Center, but the steeple remains). You can read more about the buildings on the F&M campus here–fascinating if you like history, like me. Anyway, around the perimeter of the top of the ring reads “Franklin & Marshall College 1787″–the founders (Benjamin Franklin and Supreme Court Justice John Marshall) and the founding year. In the center are the profiles of Marshall (left) and Franklin. Above them it says “Lux et Lex”–the College’s motto–which means “Light and Law” in Latin. I had my name engraved on the inside, next to the “10K” marking. All in all, it’s a lovely ring and I’m glad I forked over the $450+ for it… although at the time it was painful parting with that much money.

Your Result: Literature Nerd

Does sitting by a nice cozy fire, with a cup of hot tea/chocolate, and a book you can read for hours even when your eyes grow red and dry and you look sort of scary sitting there with your insomniac appearance? Then you fit this category perfectly! You love the power of the written word and it’s eloquence; and you may like to read/write poetry or novels. You contribute to the smart people of today’s society, however you can probably be overly-critical of works.

It’s okay. I understand.
