Crow, Raven, Blackbird

Tonight I talked to Bennett on the phone. I told him I still love him but am really hurt. I believe in second chances–heaven knows I’ve needed a few, but I also believe in honesty and trust. When I asked his if he was trustworthy, he answered that although he lies like a Yankee dog, he considers himself generally trustworthy. I asked how he’s able to reconcile those two attributes in his mind and he said that he didn’t try. They just both are there and he leaves it at that. So the question really is, “Do I trust him?” I want to. I want to be able to. So much. He said he meant what he said to me last Saturday (that I am first in his heart).

He compared himself to the crow and raven. (In the picture, the crow is on the left, raven on the right. If the direct link doesn’t work, click here.) Both are tricksters, but one is foolish and the other wise. I think that’s a pretty good description of him. He’s sometimes foolish, often wise, and always a trickster. I think perhaps, comparatively, I could be considered a blackbird; smaller, a bit more colorful, but just as sneaky. (The picture here is a red-winged blackbird. Pretty, isn’t it?) Plus the Beatles wrote/performed an awesome song that claims the blackbird as its focus… and it’s the unofficial name of my favorite fighter plane, the SR-71… more commonly known as the “SR-71 Blackbird.”

Everyone has an opinion as to what I should do. Most think I should dump him and find someone new. Like I said, though, I believe in second chances, and I’m giving him one. Third and fourth chances? No; that’d mean I’m a pushover. I want to be vigilant about not letting myself be taken advantage of, but without forgiveness, the world doesn’t work well. Even Jesus said that if someone slaps you to “turn the other cheek”… the part that didn’t get into the Bible was something like, “but since you only have two cheeks, if he slaps you again, slap that f*cker right back.” I know my own darkness runs deep, and I struggle with it every day, but I’ve learned that I will never cheat on someone knowingly. I don’t think I realized before that, if I did that, I would hurt three people (me, my significant other, and “the other wo/man”) and not just one (my significant other).

The ordeal (and yes, it really has been an ordeal) has reinforced my belief in honesty and trust; without those, no relationship can survive. Communicating comes in a close second, but I think honesty is more important than even communication. (Although, now that I think about it, it seems these two go hand in hand; without one, it’s hard to have the other.)

Gift baskets of food!

Can you imagine the look on your father’s face when he sees the huge Gourmet Food Gift Baskets you’ve brought him and your mother? It’d be priceless. Gourmet Gift Baskets (the company) uses only the finest ingredients in their baskets. They have everything from “thank you” baskets to holiday-themed baskets (including Easter!!!!), to kosher baskets. It’s pretty awesome. Plus, the stuff they put in each basket is mouth-watering. Baskets range in price from around $40 to $250… and the higher end gives you more more higher quality food. Do NOT give one of these to a binge eater, though… it’ll be gone in an unhealthy amount of time. There is choc-a-holic’s wet dream, though (you can find it on the main page), if you want to make someone with a sweet-tooth fall head-over-heels in love. As they say, a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Since Gourmet Gift Baskets has been in business since 1940, they really know what they’re doing… and once you get a taste of what they have to offer, you’ll never go anywhere else for your gift basket needs!
