AZcentral.com: for the Phoenix area

Wow. I want to own/run a newspaper that groups from “me doing everything” to having 6 full-time staff members working on the calendar of phoenix events alone, much less all the other staff people doing stuff. Can you imagine how awesome that’d be? I hope that maybe one day Amish Otaku and Diplocon get to be big like AZcentral.com, which is a top-ranked newspaper-affiliated website that serves Phoenix and the surrounding areas. Phoenix Newspapers, Inc., is the site’s parent company… a parent company that has big goals for its little website, including having :at least 3 fresh restaurant reviews each week and to provide definitive guides to the top restaurants, bars, nightclubs and after-work activities in the Phoenix area.” Does anyone know what newspapers are owned by Phoenix Newspapers, Inc.? It’d be interesting to know how far the larger company’s tentacles reach… if you know what I mean.
Bright yellow walkie-talkies

When I first met Lou’s best friend, he was introduced to me as Lou’s brother… not true, but they certainly did ACT like brothers, so when Lou confessed, I wasn’t surprised that he’d lied about it in the first place. It wasn’t hard to pull off. I was first suspicious when I noticed Lou had a different type of phone than his friend. He had a Verizon Wireless plan (I think, but don’t quote me) and his friend had a Nextel plan, including a bright yellow phone (like the one shown here). I questioned the friend and he made up some odd story about needing two different phone plans or something… It didn’t quite check out, but I let it go. Later it made me wonder why no one ever seems to talk about Nextel… I don’t see or hear commercials for their phones and I have no idea about any of their phone plans, so what’s the deal? Are they like the underdog in the Grand Scheme of Cell Phone-ness or something?
Nextel phone plans, I believe, are most famous for their push-to-talk walkie-talkie features. I don’t know if that kind of thing comes built into the phone or the plan, but I don’t really see how it’s a benefit either way. I mean, not that it’s a bad thing to have a walkie-talkie phone… but I don’t think I’d ever use it… Maybe I’ve just never been in a situation where I’d need it. Maybe these phones/plans are sold to other target groups or something and aren’t really useful to the “single with no kids and still in college” group.
Day Two hundred seventy-three

- Pedro let me borrow his computer so I could watch TV and be online at the some time. Such decadence!
- Went to my only class today!… I just kept telling myself that “late is better than never.”
- I’m glad I’m not only one who wasn’t charmed and enthralled by James Joyce’s Ulysses. Ugh.
- Nothing to do for the rest of the day (except homework and Ware House Parliament).
- It rained a bit last night and the fog was amazing this morning.
Unconscious ranking?

I find it extremely interesting that a utah search engine optimization (aka SEO) website, Utah Web Services (a division of WiWorks, Inc.), uses the image shown here on their front page. Looks pretty normal at first glance, but actually it’s a statement to the “web hierarchy” that everyone knows exists but no one really talks about in any great detail. It seems that no one is bothered by it… and maybe that’s the way it should be, but honestly… it’s just interesting to think about, even if nothing comes of it. When once AOL and Ask Jeeves! ruled the search engine world, it’s now Yahoo! and Google. Do you remember those Yahoo! radio commercials that had the guy yodeling at the end of each one? Life’s come a long way since then, don’tcha think? I wonder if the website’s creator(s) meant to rank the search engines or if it was an “obvious” thing. Very intriguing… sociology at work. (I cut some of the left part of the picture off so you all can see what I’m talking about.)

Supplements really CAN help

I (as always) have been meaning to get to the gym to take some off this (unhealthy) fat and hopefully get more toned and… well, healthy. I don’t really care about the toned thing… not really, but it’d be nice not to feel guilty every time I curl up in front of the TV, you know? Why isn’t the good stuff (that is, the great-tasting food) good for you? It’s frustrating, but after visiting that weirdo chiropractor/herbalist last summer, I realised that we don’t live in a farmer’s world anymore, at least not most of us here in the US, and I need to update my view on getting in shape… since I don’t work long, hard hours in the fields trying to make a living.
Supplements have long been used in self-healing and more natural forms of healing, like midwifery, shamanism, and etc. Of course, the discount supplements sold by Bodybuilding.com “have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration (U.S.). They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition or disease. Please consult with your own physician or health care practitioner regarding the suggestions and recommendations made at…” blah blah blah. I used to shy away from anything that wasn’t FDA-approved, but since I learned more about the FDA, I’m more inclined to rely on my friends, family, and instincts about what works and what doesn’t. Don’t be scared off by the disclaimer… but don’t let false promises lure you in, either. Use common sense, but also be open to “alternative treatments” (like the supplements sold by Bodybuilding.com). Just because it doesn’t work for some people, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you. Everyone is different, after all.

Is anyone else grossed out by the new edition of NOW: That’s What I Call Music?!!?! I feel really old since I remember the first one of these and now they’re on #66??? Sheesh. Don’t they ever just let anything die gracefully? It’s sad. Just utterly sad. I mean, the music may be decent, but really. 66??????? Come ON! And why the hell is it more than $50??? I know it’s 2 CDs, but do CDs really cost $25 each? Puh-leaze. It’s just so sad it makes me want to run outside screaming. Our culture seriously needs to get control of its compulsive consumerism. It’s just not healthy.
Also, just on a side note… the title of the series does nothing for its image. NOW: That’s What I call Music‘s music is totally no longer cool/hip/sweet/phat/whatever less than a year after its release date. Pathetic, I say… just pathetic.
Domain Names

Okay, so it’s come to my attention that to be anyone in this world, you need a domain name and you’re own website. My freshmen year RA has one, and my boyfriend’s father even has one. SO, I think I should get one, too, since heaven knows I use the internet enough and, of course, I’m a lemming and have to jump of a cliff after everyone else on this idea. Although, I think about ten years late… But it’s okay, cause I’m going to do it anyway.
Here’s where you come in. I’ve got some ideas and I need some votes. I don’t know how to work the polls feature on this thing, so you’re going to have to just leave me a comment the old fashioned way. Which of these do you like? These could all be “.com” or “.net” or whatever.
