Seriously people, visit Orlando.

Apparently, they’re desperate for publicity and tourism, or something. I’m not exactly sure what the deal is, but now you can get Discount Universal Studios Tickets from OrlandoFunTickets.com, the “ultimate source for discount tickets for Disney World and all Orlando theme parks [of which, if my memory serves, there are 52], dinner shows, and attractions.” Although this site claims that the “most expensive and intimidating factors in your planning are the endless options of admission tickets,” I only partially agree. Probably are the most expensive, but why the most intimidating? I mean, shouldn’t going to a theme park be fun? It is a park, after all, and last time I checked, parks–even theme parks–were meant for (having) fun. Maybe the “parks as fun” idea isn’t strictly true, but I’m hard-pressed to find anyone who says that “theme parks as fun” isn’t true… Unless you’re 12-year-old daughter just puked all over your brand new tennis shoes after riding Disney’s “Teacups” ride three times in a row. That’s certainly not fun.

Internet Artisans

[In case you're wondering, this is a paid post.]

As the internet is an ever-expanding community, there’s no doubt some kind of website for every thing, including those sites that sell one type of product, like JustBlinds.com (as opposed to department stores, like Sears). I think of it as a kind of return to the artisan lifestyle of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, when someone was a “shoemaker” or “bricklayer” rather than just a general “office worker” or “salesman”–only, of course, more high tech. JustBlinds.com, for example, sells all types of window coverings, including plantation shutters, cellular shades, PVC verticals, and real wood blinds. They may not be able to help you pick out a gift for your husband (unless he’s just dying for some blinds), but if you want stuff for your windows, they’ve got you covered. In some ways, this specialization is a good thing since it means the specialists really know what they’re talking about. Think about it.

  1. OMFG. YAYAYAY. I got into graduate school. Whew. *sigh of relief*
  2. This song/video is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. (Compare to this schlock. And the Alvin & the Chipmunks version.)
  3. Pedro’s little Stitch doll that plays the guitar, even though neither of us can figure out the song(s) he plays.
  4. Went to ALL my classes today. And, Pedro kindly woke me so I’d get to my 9 o’clock.
  5. Cold drinking water is sooooooooo awesome.
