F-Space
~by Cynthia Cruz
I buried everything you gave me
In the orchard.
Then I let the silence
Come on like a good drug.
Already, the gunships loom.
Now the swallows
Come to me in sleep. And a boy
Whispers of Saint Francis and the wolf
He broke. In the sanitarium, some Christian brothers
Come offering solace.
But my heart is the smallest
Catafalque. Always,
I was such a strange sort of
Princess. Hiding in the horse-weed with my crosses,
Yellow-haired and feral in the woods.
Now, neither birds nor the sea can save me.
Set me in the field and let the stars
Have their way.
First Annual Bloggers’ Choice Awards
by V.E. on April 10th, 2007
With categories like “hottest mommy blogger” and “most obnoxious blogger,” how can you go wrong? Voting begins now and ends at 11:59 pm on May 22; winners will be announced on June 2 at PostieCon in Orlando, Florida. (See why I keep pushing Orlando? They’ve got everything, including PostieCon!) Some of the categories are a little vague; “Best Animal Blogger,” for example, doesn’t make it clear whether it’s for the best person who blogs about animals or the animal with the best personal blog… And yes, animals do have blogs; just check Catster, Dogster, or Hamsterster if you don’t believe me. In other categories, like “Worst Blog of All Time,” it’s unclear whether the category itself is facetious (that is: a joke) or serious. I really like the concept, though, because it allows bloggers (and readers of blogs) to nominate themselves… instead of following the Oscars’ example and having some unknown panel pick the finalists. Also, I’m not sure how you’re notified (if you’re notified at all) if your blog is nominated for something, but there’s a search function that let’s you check to see how popular (or unpopular, as it were) if you’re curious.
[A pet peeve on my part: the use of the apostrophe. The official title is "Blogger's Choice Awards" and, while that technically works, it's pretty surely incorrect. The more likely (and more inclusive) correct usage is: Bloggers' Choice Awards, which indicates that the choice is in the hands of more than one blogger.]
