It’s that time again. Girl Scout cookies. YAY. But, did you know that they (the cookies, not the Girl Scouts) have different names over here on the East Coast? Here’s the list (at least as of today; the ones after #5 tend to change periodically):

  1. Thin Mints: we know what these are
  2. Do-Si-Dos: aka Peanut Butter Sandwich… not my favorite
  3. Trefoils: aka Shortbread…. I like the first name better
  4. Tagalongs: aka Peanut Butter Patties… one of the better kinds (I think)
  5. Samoas: aka Carmel deLites… coconut = eww
  6. All Abouts: aka Thanks-a-lots… “A shortbread cookie with a layer of chocolate fudge on the bottom”
  7. Lemon Chalet Cremes: “This sandwich cookie has a touch of cinnamon-ginger spice”
  8. Sugar Free Chocolate Chips: …. ’nuff said
  9. Cinna-Spins: “Each carton contains five ready-to-grab-and-go 100 calorie packs full of crispy cinnamon swirls”… at first I thought it read “China-Spins” but I think that may be racist or something
  10. Lemonades: “shortbread cookies are stamped in the shape of a sliced lemon with a tangy lemon icing”…. similar to Chalet Cremes

The first five are the staples that everyone thinks of when they think of “Girl Scout Cookies”… Thin Mints is always at the top of the list, of course. ^_^ So, there you go.

While I was at F&M, my sorority ran a Brownie/Junior Girl Scout troop. I was appalled when no one knew what I was talking about when I said, “But what about Tagalongs?” For a moment, I thought they’d been discontinued. Thankfully, they hadn’t been; but they did have a different name… So typical. [sigh] Turns out, though, that the different names are primarily because two different companies make GS Cookies and serve different parts of the United States.
