Muffin Tops

Um… “Gross”?? Really? What’s so “gross” about that picture? I found this advert on Facebook. When I clicked on it, I was taken to this site.

If you don’t already know, the picture is of a very slight muffin top. There’s even a website “museum” dedicated to photos of “muffin top girls” in which this photo is included.

First, aside from the photo of the 14-year-old girl, these women are not “girls.” They’re women. Second, WTF are the photographers at MuffinHuntin doing photographing 14 year olds? Seriously. They say, “sorry, had to do it” as if that makes it okay. Third, that picture (the last link in the last paragraph), well… there is no muffin top in that picture, so far as I can tell.

What is the point of “beauty” if it becomes more stringent every day? Shouldn’t we be working to make things better, not make women thinner? I mean, people say that only the ugly complain about beauty standards… but that’s because 99.9% of the population fall outside of what the industries* tell us is “beautiful.” WE ARE ALL UGLY!!

Yes, I said it. We’re all ugly. No amount of makeup or hand cream or shampoo and conditioner is going to fix or hide some of what makes us ugly. And, likewise, it can’t enhance some of what makes us beautiful.

This “muffin top” thing just makes me mad. It’s not “gross”—it’s the beauty industries’ way of forcing their standards on everyone, whether or not those standards work well with the women upon whom they’re forced.

* And yes, I really do mean “industries” and not “industry”… the thing that is Beauty in this world is certainly made up of more than one industry, and they’re all harming women (and men) by forcing unrealistic expectations about the one way someone should look when there are many body types and styles that could work for many people… if the industries allowed it, or if the people stopped buying into the industries’ collective crap. But, the industries want $$$, and the people want attention and to be wanted, and if living that “one way” will get them that, they’ll do it.
