CANAAN, ep. 1

Seeing as I don’t understand Japanese, I have to rely on subtitlers to allow me to watch anime that’s still coming out in Japan (much less on this side of the Pacific). Aside from the less-than-stellar subtitling, CANAAN ep. 1 wasn’t too bad.

Canaan in the lens of the reporter while freerunning over buildings. She’s in in the middle of a firefight in this screencap, though it’s unclear if the reporter knows this.
Well, one thing’s for sure after episode 1: Canaan is an enigma, someone is out to get her, and she can freerun like nobody’s business. As for who’s trying to get her, I don’t know.

During the firefight. Yes, she is purposefully sliding down a roof with a gun in her hand.
Apparently, Canaan can make even professional freerunners jealous.
The first ep. centers around a Japanese festival; I don’t know enough about Japanese culture in general to know which festival, so it might actually be a borrowed Chinese one, and there are giant dragons and fireworks and everything. It’s in the summer, it looks like, so that could narrow it down.

Landing on a roof after a cat-like fall. I told you she was a helluva freerunner.
I’m terrible with names, but I’ve got the title character’s name down. After that, it’s a blur.

The reporter and photographer (left to right) on “Caina Air”.
There’s a reporter and a photographer flying “Caina Air” (I think they mean “China Air”, but that’s neither here nor there) to see some Chinese official in Japan; a group of guys in fumoffu/squirrel heads who keep dying off; the two people in a van waiting for the fumoffu head guys and who look like the reporter and the photographer; another group of guys in black masks; a “secretary” (who’s obviously not) and her boss.

The three fumoffu head guys, among other festival goers. The one in the blue squirrel head was the first to go, and only the one in the middle even makes it to the people waiting for him.
Oh, and also, Canaan can do something with her eyes… that makes her able to… see through things? I think? One episode isn’t enough to even tell if I’m going to like this series.

Just after Canaan “ties up” the photographer.
Yes, they even managed to dump a red string on the viewers in all this.
Canaan and the photographer obviously have some history together, but I can’t tell from just one episode what it is, or even if it’s positive. They’re connected by a red string, though, so that means something.
