Canaan, pinned by Alphard
Canaan and Alphard, getting close

It’s been a while since I’ve watched any CANAAN (wiki). In case you’ve forgotten the plot or something, here’s a recap on episodes one, two, and three. In any case, episode 4 picks up where ep.3 left off.

While Maria locks herself in her room in a bout of depression after the end of episode 3, Canaan remembers why she and Alphard are at odds in the first place: Alphard killed Canaan’s mentor, Siam. The scenes flashback to the time when Siam saved Canaan from the rubble that, apparently, used to be her hometown.

He teaches her to use weaponry and fight using her synesthesia.

We learn why she has a tattoo, and it’s hinted at why Alphard has one.

And, back in the present, Canaan resolves to… do something—I’m not sure what.

Beautiful red moon, isn’t it?

Meanwhile, Alphard, the not-secretary, and Cummings (the president of some big company?) attend a grand opening… or grand announcement… or something grand that requires floor-length gowns and bow ties.

The reporter tries to pull Maria out of her funk by feeding her out-of-season crab. (His tactics work, apparently, at least temporarily.)

The reporter and Maria
The reporter tells Maria that a way to a woman’s happiness is food.

The cafe maid waitress from episode three is entertained by a man who’s apparently more involved than he at first seemed. (I didn’t screen cap him last ep., for example, because I thought he was just annoying and a plot device, but it turns out he’s actually part of the plot.) She still hasn’t spoken.

After dinner, Maria and the reporter part ways so she can go for a walk and she almost gets mixed up with some tough-looking Chinese men in an alley before Yunyun saves her. (I did some more cheating to figure out names this episode, too, since it’s apparent that CANAAN‘s creators don’t think using names is important.)

And finally we get back to the main story (ie: Canaan’s story): Canaan confronts Alphard in the bathroom of a posh hotel while the latter is attending a posh shindig. (Yes, I just used “posh” twice.)

All these things are happening at once and I’m still not sure I like this series. There is one thing that’s changed, though, from eps. 2 to 3 and 3 to 4; I actually want to see what happens next, so I will be watching ep.5 and not just dropping the series completely. I might not update again until ep.6, though, so I’ll have more to write about and you all won’t be bored out of your minds.
