“Royal Pain” review

Royal Pain 2 cover“Royal Pain”—a short story that comes to just under 50 pages in PDF format—didn’t really catch my attention until about page eight or nine. When the story is only so long, eight pages is a long time to wait. But, it turned out to be worth the wait because, holy sheesh, there is sex here. If you like spanking (and who doesn’t like a little spanking once in a while?), then this is for you. There are six images, including the two color title images. (“Royal Pain” is in two parts, wherein each part has a cover picture; the second of the two is shown here.)

The spanking commences when spoiled, bratty Moors pushes King Jereth past his limit and he throws the alchemist over his knee. The results are unexpected: Jereth discovers he likes the challenge, and Moors becomes aroused by the punishment. Not that I don’t like the sex (I do), but really… how was Moors, disrespectful and petulant child-like scientist that he was, allowed to exist in a world of vassals and overlords without some modicum of courtesy for his king and benefactor?

I was disappointed that Moors was reluctant to marry the King at the end, but I guess I understand why. (If it was ever discovered that he was actually a man, there would be hell to pay.) Also—and this is the “I want a good story” part of my brain, not the the “yay smut!” part saying this—I wanted to know more about what the hell Moors was working on with all that copper in his laboratory.

I’d like to read other stories about this couple in the future (and surely such stories exist—how could they not with such an ill-tempered alchemist and a Cheshire cat king as protagonists?), so I hope the author and illustrator team up again and give us more!

“Royal Pain” is a short story based on characters from Yaoi Press’ Dark Prince Trilogy (which I also recommend) by Yamila Abraham and M.A. Sambre, so if you want a little more back story—though this story is written so that you don’t need back story—you should read Dark Prince first.

Buy it from YaoiProse: $1.99 for the first part, $2.99 for the second. You can also get a copy for your Kindle from Amazon in two parts.

PLEASE NOTE: “Royal Pain” contains explicit adult content. That means no kiddies, and if you don’t know what yaoi is, find out before you invest in this erotic story. (Yaoi is awesome, but don’t blame me if you don’t realize what you’re getting yourself into when you buy.) Inform yourself and become a fan!
