30-Day Poetry: 07

Day 7—Take a walk until you find a tree you identify with, then write a poem using the tree as a metaphor for yourself or your life.

I am not the Giving Tree
after Shel Silverstein

I am not the Giving Tree,
and I do not believe that this tree
should be a Giving Tree, either.
When night falls, the branches turn dark
and give shade to twilight.
When day comes, color returns
to the tree as though brought back
from the dead.
I give nothing;
take nothing.
