30-Day Poetry: 13

Day 13—Write a short poem that a child would like.

A short poem that a child would like

How does anyone know “what a child would like”?
For what child am I writing this poem?
Alice Liddell, the Gashlycrumb Tinies, or
Kevin McCallister?

I don’t think
that people—that is, adults—
really know what children like.
I didn’t like being a child myself

so why in hell would I want to
force that upon someone else
or tell the people who are still
children what they like or not?
